Mine blast injures shepherd in western Iran

A young shepherd, 28, while doing his regular chores on Sunday midnight put his leg on a mine and was injured, the police commander of Qasr-e Shirin Colonel Enayat Fallahi told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Last year, six people were killed and 31 wounded in 35 landmine explosions in Qasr-e-Shirin.

Qasr-e-Shirin was under occupation of Iraqi forces during the imposed Iraqi war.

A large number of landmines were planted by Iraqi army forces in the 1980s during the war against Iran. And despite efforts by Iranian demining teams, dozens of people are still maimed or killed along the country's western borders every year.
