Iranian brothers win Cinefondation prize at Cannes

The two Iranian brothers Bahman and Bahram Ark won the second prize for their 15-minute film Heyvan (Animal) at Cinefondation 2017 on Friday, according to the festival’s website.

The Jury headed by Romanian film-maker Cristian Mungiu gave the first prize to the film 'Paul Est La' (Paul Is Here) by the Belgium film maker Valentina Maurel.

The third prize of the competition went to 'Deux Egares Sont Morts' (Two Youth Died) by Tommaso Usberti from France.

The prizes of Cinefondation 2017 were awarded to those shortlisted candidates from 16 student films out of a total number of 2,600 competitors from 626 film schools all over the world.

'Cinéfondation allocates a €15,000 grant for the First Prize, €11,250 for the Second and €7,500 for the Third,' added the website.

The winner of the First Prize is also guaranteed the presentation of his/her first feature film at the Festival de Cannes.

Cinefondation founded in 1998 by Gilles Jacob is operated under the Cannes Film Festival to support and inspire the upcoming generation of international film-makers.
