5.4-magnitude quake hits Sirch, Kerman prov.

Mohammad Ali Tohidi said that no casualties have so far been reported, adding that Andouhjerd’s power supply was reconnected after a short time.

But power cut still continues in Sirch and Shahdad as the efforts are underway to restore electrical power to the regions, he said.

Red Crescent Society’s search groups are currently inspecting the region, he said, noting that some adobe walls have crumbled and a restaurant has caught fire as the result of the quake.

Sirch, a rural district located 40 kilometers from Kerman, is a quake-prone region. 1981 quake in the region left hundreds killed and wounded.
