White House: US open to stand by Iran, Russia to solve Syria crisis

Sean Spicer made the remarks during a Monday press daily briefing on the eve of US President Donald Trump’s first foreign tour to Saudi Arabia slated for Friday.

“As we’ve said before, the United States remains open to working together with both Russia and Iran to find a solution that leads to a stable and united Syria,” Spicer said according to the White House website.

Meanwhile, the White House Press Secretary referring to the Syrian current government, said “the Trump administration believes that Syria’s political future should be decided by Syrians in a free, credible and transparent process.”

“We also believe that in a free process it’s unimaginable that Syrians would choose to continue under the Assad leadership,” he said.

“Syria will never be stable and secure as long as Assad is in power, he argued.

Earlier, Trump had announced that his government tends to cooperate with Syrian government in fighting the terrorist group Daesh, also known as ISIS. But following the chemical incident in Syria Washington alleged was conducted by the Syrian government against its own people the White House changed its stance.

Trump administration called for removing Assad from power saying that Damascus is accountable for the so-called attack, an allegation strongly denied by Damascus.

Political observers believe that white House readiness to cooperate with Iran is a considerable change in Trump’s hostile approach towards the Islamic Republic of Iran.
