Afghan town retaken from Taleban: Ministry

In its statement, a copy of which was sent to the IRNA office in Kabul, the Afghan ministry said that the town was recaptured at 6 am in an operation which inflicted high casualties on the terrorist group.

Local officials of the Kunduz Province confirmed the control of government troops over the area, saying that the foreign military helicopters also supported the Afghan Army's operation.

According to information obtained by the Afghan media, the Taleban terrorist had planted mines in most parts of the region and that its clearance would take much time.

The Taleban terrorist group has not yet reacted to the news.

Taleban fighters launched an attack on Qala-e-Zal on May 5 and took full control of the town the following day.

The town in Kunduz Province has been fallen to the Taleban twice over the past two years. The Taleban elements are said to be still present around the Kunduz city, the capital of the northern province.

Before the attack, some members of the Afghan parliament had warned that Qala-e-Zal would fall again unless new forces were deployed in the region.
