Vice President: Iran ready to activate Persian Gulf-Black Sea Corridor

Eshaq Jahangiri's remarks were expressed in the joint talks with high-ranking delegations from Iran and Georgia.

He mentioned transit of goods as one of the main fields of cooperation between Iran and Georgia, adding that the authorities of the two countries have held some rounds of talks in this regard.

He also urged an increase in the pace of the talks.

Describing the corridor of the Persian Gulf-Black Sea both time- and cost-saving, Jahangiri explained that any increase in the trade exchanges and expansion of the economic ties requires infrastructure, but it should not delay other attempts; instead steps should be taken at the same time to expand the economic cooperation.

'Iran was among the first few countries which recognized Georgia’s independence and has backed the its sovereignty in all political ups and downs,' he said.

Jahangiri pointed to the Joint Economic Commission of the two countries, which resumed its work after a two-year pause, and called it a body that devises the road map for economic ties and cooperation expansion plans.

Vice President also pointed to the turbines produced in Iran and added that they are of a competitive quality compared to the best products in the world. He also declared Iran’s ability to export the Georgian electricity power to the neighboring countries.

The Iranian official pointed to the visa-free regime between Iran and Georgia, and described the agreement an important factor in promoting tourism sector of the two countries.

He also urged a mechanism to hold joint tourism projects and facilitating Iranian travelers affairs in Georgia as they account for a significant number of foreign tourists in the country.
