
Bahrain, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) led by Saudi Arabia announced on June 5, that they severed bilateral ties with Qatar, accusing the gas-rich country of supporting terrorism.
Qatar has denied the charges.
“We hope that the countries involved resolve the situation through dialogue,” said UN spokeswoman Eri Kaneko on Friday.
She voiced the UN readiness 'to assist if requested by the parties.”
“We continue to follow the situation with deep concern. We are aware of reports of a list of demands on Qatar. We are not able to comment in detail on, or confirm such a list,” added Kaneko.
Qatar was presented by a list of demands by the the Arab states on Thursday as the conditions to roll back the sanctions and isolating measures againt Doha.
Anwar Gargash, the UAE’s state minister for foreign affairs, warned that in case Qatar does not take the demands seriously, it would be facing a “divorce” from the other Persian Gulf Arab countries.
