Trusting US, big mistake: Pakistan analysts

They believe that when Pakistan cooperated with the US in its 2001 invasion to Afghanistan, which was claimed as a “war on terror” by Washington to root out terrorism and militancy from Afghanistan, the result did not satisfy Afghan and Pakistan people and governments.

The invasion resulted in military occupation of Afghanistan, it motivated terrorist group for more terrorist attacks in Afghanistan and also paved the way for terrorist and militant groups from Afghanistan to Pakistan, which resulted in spreading terrorism and insecurity in Pakistan.

That is why both Pakistan and Afghanistan are now suffering from security issues.

Meanwhile, Pakistan and Afghanistan with the cooperation of the US had initiated peace dialogue process in Afghanistan, but instead of helping the dialogue and peace process, the US targeted Taliban leaders and destroy all efforts to bring peace talks to a tangible result.

Back in May 2016, when Mullah Akhtar Mansour then leader of Afghan Taliban was killed in a US drone attack, the Afghanistan peace process talks jumped back to the starting point and one of the golden chances of peace talks was destroyed by the US.

Now, regarding Kashmir issue as one of vital issues of Pakistan, the new US government has already shown interest to help solve the issue between Pakistan and India.

Talking to IRNA, Asif Ezdi, Pakistan’s former ambassador to Germany said that the US is not reliable player to resolve long-standing issue of Kashmir between Pakistan and India.

The analyst added that nobody here in Pakistan interpreted the earlier statements of some of the US leaders that the country is signaling a pro-active role in solving the issue.

“I think it is a good thing that they are not interested because they would take the side of Pakistan on the issue,” said Asif Ezdi.

He added that the issue of Kashmir should be resolved according to the wishes and desires of the Kashmiri people.

The analyst also welcomed Iran's Supreme Leader Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s recent statement in which he urged support for the people of Kashmir.

In an interview with IRNA, former Pakistani Ambassador to Afghanistan, Rustam Shah Mohmand said that the US would never play any constructive role in helping Pakistan and India to find a just solution to the Kashmir issue.

He further added that instead of declaring Kashmiri leaders as terrorist, Americans should have encouraged bilateral talks between Pakistan and India.

“I don’t believe in US,” he said.

He said that Americans are warming up towards Indians and siding with them because they need India to counter the influence of China in South China Sea.
