Expert calls for putting science into practice to combat dust pollution

Speaking to IRNA, Vukovic noted that exchange of knowledge is top priority for the national, regional and international organizations which are in charge of combating sand and dust storms.

She referred to abrupt effects of climate change in the globe and noted that the global warming needs quick response of the international community.

Vukovic believes that the international community and the international bodies are very slow in implementing measures to protect the environment.

She called for communication among the scientific communities of all states in the region and the world in order to find the best solution to the problem.

Referring to the impacts of dam construction on drying the lakes and rivers, Vukovic noted that making the riverbeds or lakebeds dry can cause particle pollution in the nearby regions.

She praised Iran for holding the First International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms, noting that the meeting helped exchange of information between professionals who are working on the issue.

The First International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms is holding in Tehran on 3-5 July 2017. The international conference was hosted by the Department of Environment and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with the cooperation of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat, UN Environment and the UN Development Program, in collaboration with other relevant UN entities.
