Spokesman: Iran's view on Tajikistan 'positive'

“Islamic Republic of Iran has always attempted to move forward and add to the mutual understanding and commonalities to improve ties,” Bahram Qasemi said in his weekly press conference referring to the recent developments in Tehran-Dushanbe relations which resulted in closing Iran’s cultural and trade offices in the Tajik city Khujand.

“Sometimes it is perceived that some third party elements and countries try to sabotage in Tajikistan-Iran relations,” he said, adding that Tehran will spare no efforts in resolving misunderstandings on the Tajik side.

The spokesman also expressed hope that the efforts would bear fruit and the Tajik government refrain from wrong speculations on Iran to enable the two countries to have better ties.

To another question, Qasemi said that Iran welcomes the emerging understanding on ban of nuclear weapons and the country believed that everybody should contribute to a world without nuclear and mass destruction weapons.

The spokesman was referring to an treaty recently signed at the United Nations to ban nuclear weapons. Iran’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency, referring to Iran as being one of the victims of weapons of mass destruction, stressed Tehran’s full support of Nuclear Weapon Ban Treaty on Saturday.

“Iran is bound morally and religiously to the cause, and opposed to nuclear arms race,” Qasemi said.
