MCB ready for cooperation with British gov’t against extremism

The statement appeared on the MCB website said, ”Muslims everywhere are outraged and disgusted at these cowards who once again have destroyed the lives of our fellow Britons. That this should happen in this month of Ramadan, when many Muslims were praying and fasting only goes to show that these people respect neither life nor faith.”

The statement came after seven people were killed and 48 injured in an attack on London Bridge and in Borough Market last night. A vehicle was driven into pedestrians before three attackers launched a knife attack, before they were shot dead by armed police.

Expressing hatred towards extremism, the statement added that based on the ideology, killing is a normal act and they use Islam as cover-up for their actions.

Unfortunately, a number of the youth who have distanced from mosques have fallen in their traps of the promoters of hatred. Therefore, efforts should be made to make instruments to counter extremism available to the Imams of mosques, it said.

MCB said elsewhere in the statement that this is not the way the Prophet (PBHH) has offered, as Qur’an clearly states that if one kills anybody as if he has killed a society. Terror acts are in contravention to the spirit of Islam and not justifiable anyway.

“We are deeply hurt that a spate of terror attacks has been committed in our country once more by murderers who seek to gain religious legitimacy for their actions. We seek to clarify that their reprehensible actions have neither legitimacy nor our sympathy.”

Muslim Imams and religious leaders have said that the perpetrators of the terror acts are not authorized to be buried in the cemetery of the Muslims, as they refuse to perform Islamic funeral prayers for the terrorists, the statement said.

The Muslim Council of Britain is the UK’s largest Muslim umbrella body with over 500 affiliated national, regional and local organizations, mosques, charities and schools.

The attack hit a nation still recovering from the shock of the bombing in Manchester almost two weeks ago, when a suicide bomber blew himself up outside the doors of an Ariana Grande concert. Many of those killed were children, and 116 people were injured.
