Malaysian minister calls for closer ties with Iran in all areas

Talking to IRNA, Shukri said the two countries enjoy vast potential for expanding mutual cooperation.

He added the exchange of delegations between Malaysia and Iran is an indication of the two countries’ commitment to strengthen ties.

Touching upon the recent visits of the Malaysian and Iranian officials, she described the move as a positive step for further development of bilateral relations.

She added Kuala Lumpur and Tehran have always enjoyed amicable relations, calling for expansion of trade cooperation between the two countries.

Pointing to the appointment of Marziyeh Afkham as the first woman Iranian ambassador after the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, she added the move is an indication of boosting women position in the current Iranian government.

Afkham is an Iranian diplomat who is currently serving as the ambassador to Malaysia.

She was spokeswoman and head of the Center for Public and Media Diplomacy in Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs before being appointed the new post.
