IRNA chief pays tribute to Iranian reporters on national day

He made the remarks in a ceremony held in the news agency on the occasion of the National Reporter's Day which commemorates martyrdom of an IRNA correspondent by the Taliban terrorists 18 years ago.

He said there is no end to the efforts of press people to fight ignorance.

At the end of the ceremony, Khoddadi handed awards to a number of IRNA news room members for their outstanding works.

Maryam Azish from IRNA English desk received one of the awards for writing a series of news analyses the latest of which was on the performance of the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani during three years in office.

Iran commemorates Reporter’s Day every year on Mordad 17 in the Iranian calendar, (Aug 7 this year) marking the anniversary of killing an Iranian reporter Mahmoud Saremi in Afghanistan 18 years ago.

The day was designated as national Reporter's Day after Taliban terrorists killed Saremi, the correspondent of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), along with other eight Iranian diplomats, in the Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif in 1998.
