Fordow site to become major center of modern nuclear industry: Senior negotiator

Hamid Baeedinejad made the announcement while referring to construction of Fordow nuclear site with cooperation between Iranian and Russian experts that will be added to the most important centers of nuclear industry after being completed.

Fordow is a nuclear infrastructure, Baeedinejad wrote in his telegram channel.

Russia's Kremlin issued a statement on Friday (August 5) on the verge of the upcoming trilateral talks between Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan in Baku, stressing importance of cooperation between Iranian and Russian sides to produce stable isotopes in the Fordow facilities.

An isotope is an atom whose nuclei contain the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons. Isotopes are broken into two specific types: stable and unstable. These unstable isotopes are commonly referred to as radioactive isotopes.

There are approximately 300 known naturally occurring stable isotopes.

There are just few countries in the world that produce stable isotopes. Iran yearly costs tens of millions of dollars to import such isotopes for industrial and medical purposes.

Iran will be turned into an exporter of stable isotopes after the Fordow production project will be completed.

Due to its unique technical capacities, Fordow nuclear facilities is a proper place for doing the tests and researches on modern nuclear physics.

So, it is planned to be turned into a center of nuclear physics' research and development through international cooperation.

Preliminary talks with developed countries are underway on the issue that is predicted to become operational in near future.
