Iran’s compliance with JCPOA, its strong point in int’l scene: Deputy FM

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano in Vienna late on Thursday, Araqchi added, “We are currently in Vienna for the next meeting of JCPOA Joint Commission slated for Friday and we use the chance each time to hold talks with Amano on Iran-IAEA cooperation, particularly with respect to JCPOA.”

It’s necessary to review problems pertaining to the implementation of the JCPOA to find a way for their settlement, he said.

Hailing cooperation between Iran and IAEA, Araqchi said, “This time, also, we reached a joint understanding about the problems regarding the implementation of JCPOA.”

Araqchi reiterated Iran’s adherence to JCPOA, noting that this has been mentioned in IAEA’s reports on various occasions.

As to the issues raised during the meeting with Amano, he said, “Regular meetings are being held between Iranian and the Agency’s experts and I myself discuss the issues requiring decisions on political levels during my visits to Vienna.”

Touchning on JCPOA Joint Commission, he said that it provides an opportunity for different countries to put forward their viewpoints in a bid to remove misunderstandings.

During one and a half years since the international pact has been put into effect, Iran has complied with the deal as the Agency has on several occasions verified, but the opposing party, US in particular, has had many cases of violations, the Iranian diplomat said.

The 8th meeting of JCPOA Joint Commission is scheduled to be held on Friday at a time when the US insists on its contradictory stances and media games to cover up its breach of the deal.

Nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is the result of marathon talks between Iran and six world powers which was clinched in July 2015. Under the deal, Iran accepted constraints on its nuclear program in return for some relief from international sanctions.
