Iranian Norouz celebrated in Pakistan

Cultural Counselor of Iranian Embassy Shahaboddin Daraei was the chief guest on the occasion.

Students and professors of the Persian department of the university attended the event.

Some of the students and professors made short speeches in Persian language about Norouz and its seven special and unique symbols.

Shahaboddin Daraei in his speech introduced Norouz to Pakistani students and professors by giving more details about the Norouz and its thousands years of history.

He congratulated Iranian Norouz to Pakistanis especially those attending the ceremony.

Norouz is a special festival celebrated on the very beginning of Iranian year which begins on March 21.

Norouz, literally the “New Day”, marks both the beginning of a new year and the beginning of spring for Iranian families and others across the world. It is followed by thirteen days of celebrations and lots of visiting of family members and friends.

Norouz has its origins in ancient Iran and Zoroastrianism, the ancient pre-Islamic religion but Iranians gave it an Islamic color after they converted to Islam in at the end of the Sasanid Empire in 651.

It is celebrated by more than 300 million people worldwide on March 21, the day of the spring Equinox, which marks the sun’s crossing of the Equator and the start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

Norouz has been celebrated across Western and Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Black Sea Basin and the Balkans for 3,000 years.
