Iran, Russia should have close media cooperation: IRNA chief

Khoddadi who is currently in the Russian cultural capital to attend the St. Petersburg International Conference stressed the need for technological cooperation and using the two sides’ capabilities in the field.

Noting that fabrications of news and using faked sources are problems facing the media sector, Khodadi regretted that most of the international news agencies are now quoting news from faked sources.

To counter the process of making and spreading false news, Iranian and Russian media outlets should be recognized as reliable sources, Khoddadi said.

Since Tehran and Moscow boast of numerous interests, they should support each other and further cooperate for developing technology, he said, contending that they should have close ties.

Khoddadi was invited to Russia by TASS Russian News Agency Director General Sergei Mikhailov to participate the 21st St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2017) which kicked off in the Russian cultural capital (St. Petersburg city) June 1.

The three-day event opened on Thursday in a ceremony attended by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi who is also the chairman of Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission.

Over 12,000 people including the incumbent and former senior officials of the participating countries and the UN representative are also present in the event.

Reviewing major international economic and social challenges, Middle East situation, regional crises, future of the world and relations among the countries are of major topics to be discussed in the meeting, which is to be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
