Iran could play pivotal role in global communications confab, says ITU chief

Zhao made the remarks in a meeting with Iran Minister of Communications Mahmoud Vaezi on the sidelines of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum in Geneva on Thursday.

He also expressed hope that Iran could play an efficient role in the WTDC ministerial summit expected to be held next year.

Vaezi, for his part, touching upon the Iranian expertise and potentials in the telecommunications and information technologies , said that Iran is keen on boosting its international cooperation in this sphere.

He also said Iran’s Faculty of Applied Science of Post and Telecommunication is ready to hold training courses in the areas of information, communications and telecommunication (ICT) for the countries in Asia-Pacific region.
