Iran backs Bosnia independence: Envoy

Mahmoud Heydari in a meeting held on the anniversary of Srebrenica massacre on Monday expressed hope that holding such gatherings remind the world the lessons of the disaster in order to prevent such crimes in the future.

Srebrenica genocide was perpetrated in July 1995 during the Bosnian War by units of the Bosnian Serb Army of Republika Srpska, under the command of Ratko Mladićgenocide.

As the result of the massacre, more than 8,000 Muslims, mainly men and boys, in and around the town of Srebrenica were killed.

The Iranian diplomat also said that the friendly relations between Iran and Bosnia have been proved in difficult conditions.

At the commemoration ceremony the ambassador was awarded the golden plate of resilience in appreciation of the given services and cooperation of Iranian embassy with the Bosnian nation, and as a sign of the two countries friendship.
