Huge turnout, result of Iranians’ trust in their Islamic System: Pak politician

In an interview with IRNA, Syed Muhammad Zafar added that people in Iran know that their vote has a value and their decision would be respected by all sides.

According to reports more than 40 million ballots were cast in Iran’s presidential elections which means the turnout was about 70 percent.

S. M Zafar noted that people participate in country’s democratic process only if they have faith in the system of their country, and the massive turnout in Iran is a clear example that people have faith in the Islamic Revolution and their Islamic Republic system.

Former parliamentarian went on to say that massive turnout gives strong mandate to the upcoming government and in the result the government has to respect the mandate by showing its performance.

Ex-law minister viewed that the huge turnout in the elections will make the Islamic Revolution even more stronger.

He strongly believed that who so ever wins presidential elections in Iran, relations between Iran and Pakistan will be strengthened. He added that President Hassan Rouhani in his last tenure took many initiatives to improve ties with Pakistan.

The human rights activist added that Iran and Pakistan are neighbors and their ties are deeply rooted in history, culture and religion.

Hassan Rouhani was re-elected as the new president of Iran on Saturday winning a landslide victory by obtaining 57% of votes.

Rouhani obtained 23,549,616 votes out of the total 41,220,131, while his rival Ebrahim Raeisi received 15,786,449 of counted ballots.
