Foreign Ministry summons Danish envoy to protest attack on embassy

Bahram Qasemi said the Danish envoy was ordered to go to the Foreign Ministry after six people from opposition groups attacked the Iranian Embassy in Copenhagen on Wednesday afternoon.

The Danish ambassador was informed of Iran’s serious protest to the action which was against international norms and also the internal laws of Denmark.

Protesting against the Danish government’s insufficient response to ensure security of the Iranian nationals and staff at the Embassy, the Foreign Ministry called for 'serious, decisive, and responsible' measure against the attackers to the embassy.

The ambassador was told that the incident which has not been the first of its kind 'not only questions the will and intention of the Danish government but also does harm to the growing relations of the two countries and will certainly have appropriate reaction.'

For his part, the Danish ambassador expressed deep regret over the issue, saying the attack was an unacceptable move.

He noted that he would convey Tehran’s protest to Copenhagen as soon as possible, adding Denmark will follow up the issue and the result will be reported to Iran.
