EP strongly supports continued implementation of JCPOA

In a meeting with Iranian chairman of Iran-EP Parliamentary Relations Group Kazem Jalali late on Saturday, Chairman of the European Parliament’s (EP) group for relations with Iran, Janusz Lewandowski said, “We confirm Iran adherence to the JCPOA based on the reports of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and consider it a good reason for the removal of nuclear sanctions against it.”

There are numerous opportunities and capacities for promoting trade and economic ties between Iran and Europe, which should be used optimally, using post-JCPOA situation.

Expressing pleasure over continued talks between Iran and Europe in various levels, Lewandowski said that dialogues between the two sides on various aspects of relations are desirable.

The talks which will help develop a common understanding should continue, he said.

He also expressed condolences over the devastating quake in western Iran, saying, “We express sympathy with Iran’s parliament, government and nation over the incident.”

Referring to hosting by Iran of several million refugees from other countries, Afghanistan in particular, Lewandowski praised Iran’s friendly behavior towards refugees from other states, saying that the friendly move stems from its lofty culture and civilization.

Jalali, also head of Majlis’ Center of Researches, said that JCPOA is not an agreement between Iran and the US; rather it is an international multilateral pact.

He also thanked sympathy of the EP’s group with the Iranian nation and government over the deadly quake, saying that the solidarity signifies friendly ties between the European and Iranian nations.

“European Parliament has a special status in Iran’s parliamentary diplomacy,” Jalali said, noting that given their high potentials in foreign policy, they can take suitable steps in line with facilitating bilateral ties.

Reiterating Iran’s compliance with the JCPOA based on verifications of the IAEA, he said that following the implementation of the deal, Iran-EU ties have entered a new chapter.

Iran will never accept any change to the international pact, Jalali said, hailing effective implementation of the deal until now.

Chair of the European Parliament’s (EP) group for relations with Iran arrived in Tehran on Saturday at the head of a delegation.

Lewandowski and his 10-man entourage are visiting Iran at the invitation of the Iranian chairman of Iran-EP Parliamentary Relations Group Kazem Jalali.
