Qatar urges five-fold trade exchanges with Iran

Shariatmadari made the remarks after a meeting with Qatari Economy Minister Ahmed bin Jassim Al Than in Tehran late on Saturday.

Iran’s exports to Qatar was close to 97 million dollars over the past seven months while the value of contracts reached between the two nations in the engineering and technical sector was less than one billion dollars.

He further noted that given the specific conditions facing the region, Qatar is now interested to boost all-out ties with Iran more than any other time.

According to him, there are good infrastructures which can be used in line with bolstering economic relations with the world.
Since Qatar is scheduled to host 2022 World Cup, mutual cooperation in the engineering and technical sector can improve, he said.

Qatari economy minister, for his part, said that Iran plays a crucial role in transiting goods from other countries such as Turkey and Azerbaijan Republic.

He also said that during the meeting, it was agreed to raise volume of commercial exchanges between Iran and Qatar and remove all the obstacles in the way of boosting ties.

The Qatari official also said that Iran-Qatar trade exchanges have grown remarkably as Iran’s foodstuff and construction materials’ export to the country has increased.
