Envoy calls Iran FM visit to Senegal turning point

Commenting on the recent visit by Foreign Minister Zarif to Senegal, Einollah Qashqavi told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that the big economic delegation accompanied him with the aim of boosting relations with the West African country, particularly in trade.

The talks and meetings held with high-ranking Senegalese officials were all in line with the main purpose of the visit that was enhancing trade and economic ties between the two countries and easing activities for the private sectors.

Qashqavi added that as a result of the visit, it was agreed that the 5th round of Iran-Senegal joint economic commission will be held in November this year after a long hiatus.

Other achievements of the visit included an agreement on issuing visas upon arrival for the citizens of the two countries, particularly businesspersons and deals on training Senegalese workforce in medicine, oil and gas sectors, he said.

Qashqavi said that the two countries can offer good opportunities of cooperation, as Iran has high potentials in healthcare, oil and gas, petrochemical industry, car making, machinery and human resources training, and the African partner is capable in the fields of agriculture, fishery, and mining.

Zarif visited Senegal at the first stop of his tour to Africa and South America on Monday.
