IRNA chief: Asian media should be free of West domination

Iranian and Chinese media still have dependence on the Western media's resources which should be changed, Zia Hashemi said in a meeting with chief editor of China's Global Times newspaper Hu Xijin.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed ways to broaden bilateral relations.

In line with the two sides' determination, IRNA chief said the state Iranian news agency is ready to share news resources with China's Global Times.

Then, Hashemi elaborated on media activities at IRNA and Iran Cultural-Press Institute.

According to news reports, IRNA chief said, some in Iran believe that the government should adopt tougher stance on the US, and if Washington is not loyal to the July 2015 nuclear deal, Tehran should also take proportionate measures.

However, some say Iran should remain committed to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as long as other sides are faithful too, Hashemi said while referring to the opinions and news being reported by IRNA about the Iran Deal.

For his part, the Chinese side said his country attaches great importance to its cooperation, including in the area of media, with Iran.

IRNA chief visited China to take part in the Boao Forum for Asia held in Hainan Island on April 8-11.

Launched in 2001, Boao has been considered as a platform to build Asian consensus, promote regional cooperation and advance the continent's influence on the world stage.
