Haideri who is also a senior member of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) suffered minor injuries whereas more than 30 others also were injured.

Speaking to the media shortly after the attack, Maluana Ghafoor said, “The blast was extremely powerful.”

It is unclear whether the explosion was the result of an improvised explosive device (IED) or a suicide attack.

Police say the attack is likely to have been a suicide bombing.

The wounded are being taken to Mastung Civil Hospital, while those in critical condition are being transported to Quetta for treatment. The majority of the injured are party workers of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).

An emergency has been declared in hospitals in the area and more doctors have been called in.
No group has so far claimed responsibility of the blast.

The blast also damaged a number of vehicles parked on the road causing panic in the area.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the incident and expressed his deep concern for the well being of Maulana Haideri.
