Culture minister stresses need to legislate copyright in Iran

“Approving the copyright law will be a positive act and the law would provide cultural security for the authors and owners of art works so that all creative individuals will feel secure enough regarding the intellectual property of their works,” said the minister.

He stressed that the copyright must be implemented in the fields of publications, cinema, music, animation, computer games, and other categories since the law is one of the conditions to work with the world while recognizing others’ property rights,” Salehi Amiri said.

Copyright is a legal right created by the law of a country that grants the creator of an original work exclusive rights for its use and distribution. This is usually only for a limited time.

Iran currently does have a copyright law but it only offers protection to domestically created works and is not extended to international copyright works.

Salehi Amiri said approving the copyright is a must for all governments in the contemporary world.
