Census begins in Pakistan after two decades/ over 200 million expected

The last census was held in 1998 according to which the population of Pakistan was 130,857,717 but now estimates say that this has even exceeded two hundred million and all Pakistanis are eagerly waiting to know about their exact number of population.

The census will be conducted in two phases. In the first phase, the census will be conducted in 63 districts across the country whereas in the second phase, it will be conducted in 88 districts.

Over 200 thousand army troops are also assisting the census process throughout the country.

Overseas Pakistanis, living abroad for more than six months would not be included in the exercise. Dual nationals, who are present in Pakistan at the time of the census, will be included.

The census is deemed to be one of the most basic elements for the judicious distribution of resources, representation in Parliament, electoral processes, tax collection and other civic issues, including growing urbanization and evaluation of resources for infrastructure development.
