Ambassador: Iran keen on boosting ties with Pakistan

Mehdi Honardoost delivering a speech to mark the 38th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution here said after victory of the Islamic Revolution, promotion, expansion and deepening of brotherly and friendly ties with regional countries, especially with Pakistan as a neighboring friendly and brotherly country, has obtained a special status.

He said currently, a number of projects at various scales including Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline and electricity exports are under consideration; in case of their realization, there would be fruitful results in various fields in economic, social and welfare atmosphere for the people and government of brotherly country of Pakistan.

“Common historical, cultureal, linguistic, and religioous bonds as joint heritage of the two countries are and will be the biggest preservers of friendship and mutual respect in the two nations,” he noted.

The envoy went on to say that during recent years, there have been a 30 percent increase in the bilateral trade transactions and hopefully by removal of some impediments, it will increase up to five billion dollars.

He said in view of religious commonalities and joint social and moral values, especially cultural cooperation in the fields of music and film and learning of Urdu and Persian languages, bilateral media and sports cooperation between the two countries is underway and in view of common look of the two countries, there will be more activities in the coming years.

The ambassador said 38 years back during these days; a revolution occurred in Iran, through which a despotic monarchy was converted in to an independent, democratic and Islamic system.

He added political independence was the biggest gift of the revolution to the people of Iran and under its blessings Iran acquired tremendous achievements in the various fields; self-sufficiency in the defense production is one of its obvious examples.

The Iranian diplomat said Iran is already producing annually more than one million automobiles, which is the highest level of automobile production in the Middle East and secures 20th position in the world in this regard.

The official said Iran is the fourth big country in the world in steel production, has the same position in cement production, and 7th in nanotechnology, these are only some achievements of the Islamic Revolution.

“These achievements have been obtained despite direct and indirect enmity of the US and some other Western countries,” he noted.
