Afghanistan focus of Iran, Uzbekistan security chiefs talks

Expressing concern over the rise of terrorist group of Daesh (ISIS) in Afghanistan and Central Asia, Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said that his country is prepared to share its successful experiences in fighting terrorism with other countries in the region.

He, who was meeting with his Uzbek counterpart in Tehran, added that Iran is also willing to boost bilateral cooperation with Uzbekistan in political, security, military, economic and technological spheres.

Welcoming policies of Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Iranian official said the two countries can make trustworthy partners for each other on the path towards a high-level cooperation among Central Asian countries.

Commenting on destabilizing conduct of NATO in Afghanistan, as well as political, security, economic and social crises in the country, Shamkhani said, 'Iran and Uzbekistan can contribute to the security and economic situation in Afghanistan through joint efforts and boosting cooperation and support for the national unity government.'

The Uzbek official, Viktor Mahmudov, for his part, underlined the necessity of taking serious regional measures for supporting Afghanistan's government.

The two sides also called for more use of economic, transit, energy and security capacities and stressed that the productive relations would not be affected by any third party move.
