North-South Transport Corridor to accelerate exports: Iran official

During the quadruple meeting participated by railway officials from Iran, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Russia and Belarus, the parties decided to decrease the tariff fees by offering discount rates, Ashouri said on the sideline of the event in the Azeri capital.

'The participants agreed to offer attractive tariff rates, until the end of 2017, to owners of cargos,' he said.

The Iranian official said that compared to the railways, tariff fees for roads are rather high.

'We have planned to inaugurate Iran's Astara railroad station in two months time and it is expected to speed up transportation of cargos and decrease transportation fees,' Ashouri said.

According to him, to encourage exports, tariff fee rates have seen a 15 to 50 percent decline in recent years.

The International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC) is a 7,200-km-long multi-mode network of ship, rail, and road routes for moving freight between India, Iran, Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Central Asia and Europe.
