Iranian researchers produce hydrophobic metallic surface structures

The main application of the hydrophobic metallic surface structures is in energy industries, desalination of water and in producing products that use thermo-transfer systems.

According to Hamid-Reza Taleshbahrami one of the researchers involved in the nanotechnology-based project, the main goal of developing such structures is finding a way to apply hydrophobic feature to copper surface structures.

“By doing so, we are going to decrease costs and accelerate performance,” Taleshbahrami said.

The hydrophobic copper surface structures, he said, have a vast application especially in thermal systems used for transferring and converting energies.

The achievement by the University of Science and Technology in Tehran has been cited in the Materials Letters Journal, a magazine dedicated to publishing novel, cutting edge reports of broad interest to the materials community.
