Iran, France to develop fisheries co-op

Speaking in the opening ceremony of Iran-France Fisheries Day, Hassan Salehi said France has had good cooperation on fisheries with Iran.

Regarding Iran Fisheries Organization's plans to develop cage farming in the sea and the importance of salmonids and sturgeons especially in the Caspian Sea, French firms' role is undeniable, he said.

Salehi reiterated that Iran's plan is to produce 820,000 tons of different kinds of fish by the Iranian calendar year 1400, (five years later).

He added that farmed aquatic production reached from 125,000 tons in Iranian calendar year 1383 to 415,000 tons in 1394 which means a three-fold increase.

Referring to Iran's first ranking in producing world trout, he said that producing 140,000 tons of trout, Iran ranked first in the world.

He added that developing farming trout in brackish water is another example of executive policies of Iran's fisheries.

The one-day Iran-France Fisheries Conference in the presence of French ambassador in Iran François Sénémaud and some representatives of Iranian and French firms is underway.
