Government is not seeking membership in FATF and whenever, the whole system reach a decision on the issue, government will make it operational, Mahmoud Vaezi told reporters.
He referred to Iran talks with the European sides of nuclear deal, known also as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), after the US withdrawal, and said that the talks were fruitful.
Earlier on June 21, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani declared that the lawmakers will act according to the guidelines of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) issue.
'The parliament will act as per guidelines by the Supreme Leader,' Larijani told reporters.
'We will certainly find out more about Supreme Leader's view on CFT and we will act accordingly,' the Iranian parliament speaker added.
In June 2016, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) treaty welcomed Iran's high-level political commitment to address its strategic AML/CFT deficiencies and suspended countermeasures for a year. Given Iran's steps in the following year, the organization decided in November 2017 to continue the suspension of countermeasures.
However, Iran's deadline to fulfill its action plan with the FATF passed on January 31 with a number of items remaining incomplete. Therefore the organization has now suspended countermeasures once more, advising Iran to fully address its remaining items.
