He rejected any news regarding cutting trade ties with Iran.
Many Korean companies rely on Iranian oil and Korean chemical and petrochemical industries are suffering from a shortage of Iranian oil as well, he noted.
'We are negotiating with the United States to gain the necessary exemptions to continue to buy Iran oil,' Jang Hyan reiterated.
Contrary to the fact that the US, China, Japan and Europe were the main axis of our trade relations, now our policy is to diversify trade and economic relations with different countries of the world, especially Asian countries, members of the ASEAN and important economies such as India and Iran, which enjoy credibility and influence in the region, he said, referring to the meeting between South Korean president and his North Korean counterpart.
South Korea will support Iran nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) since it is believed that the JCPOA preserves peace and security in the region and the world, Korean envoy added.
'Despite the fact that the US policies affect our economy, we are interested in developing relations with Iran,' Jang Hyan said.
South Korean diplomatic mission in Tehran will spare no efforts in promoting relations with Iran, he added.
Bakhtiari, for his part, said regardless of the sanctions that have made the situation hard for Iran and Korea to continue mutual cooperation, it is clear that Iranian firms are keen to maintain trade relations with their Korean counterparts.
'As long as we can overcome the existing barriers, the economic relations between two countries can increase to 25-30 billion dollar per year,' he added.
Iran is negotiating with other parties to the JCPOA and Europe is also setting up a mechanism for continuing economic cooperation with Iran, he noted.
