Tehran University convenes training workshop for NGOs

Opening the workshop on the eve of International Conference on Islamic Human Rights to be held in the faculty on Saturday, FWS Dean Professor Saied Reza Ameli delivered his lecture themed Globalization and Changes of the World and Islamic Resistance.
He said rapid advances in communication technology have provided NGOs with both opportunities and threats. Ameli also said these developments need to be duly addressed so that the NGOs in Islamic countries can meet the emerging ideological challenges posed by liberal and western social media platforms.
Next speaker, Arzu Merali addressed the topic A Decolonial View of International Civil Society. Head of research at the London-based Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) elaborated on how Zionists and imperialists strategies are at work in NGOs.
Her speech was followed by Mohideen Abdul Kader, director of Citizens International in Malaysia, who raised the issue The Decolonial Conversation in Civil Society. The case which he referred to was the work of the multiversity and Universal Justice Network (UJN).
Mohammad Asi, elected Imam of the Islamic Center of Washington, also delivered his speech on Takfiri Discourse among Muslims.

The last speaker of the workshop was Hassan Hosseini, head of American Studies Department at FWS, and discussed the theme Emerging New Islamic Civilization and Non-Governmental Organizations.
Hosseini urged the thinkers and intellectuals in Islamic countries to produce the vernacular content in order to contribute to and facilitate the work of NGOs while so-called concepts of Civic Islam and denationalized Muslims are aired to negatively affect the Islamic Civilization.
The workshop jointly held by the IHRC and Iranian World Studies Association (IWSA) in the Faculty of World Studies was concluded by questions and answers followed by final remarks of Masoud Shadjareh, who chairs IHRC.
