Sassanid, early Islam clay works discovered in eastern Iran

The Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT) quoted head of the exploration and speculation team Maysam Labbaf Khaniki on Sunday as saying in the explorations and speculation of the current season a large number of collapsed columns were discovered which is indicative of a building with columns in the eastern side of a foursquare.

Exploration and speculation in the area were conducted by a group of experts to the Archaeology Department of Tehran University, the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism and the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department of Khorasan Razavi Province, he said.

It was also found out that the area has a span of about 10 hectares and includes residential spaces and cemeteries dating back to the Sassanid era and early Islam, he added.

Khaniki pointed to Bazeh Hoor foursquare as a building belonging to the Sassanid era, saying the monument which has been registered in the list of National Monument in 1931-1932, is one of the few remaining buildings in the cultural field of eastern Iran from the Post-Islamic era.
