Malaysian university honorary member of Mustafa Prize Fund

Eini Ideris, Vice Chancellor of the UPM has made the announcement in a a recent statement a copy of which was sent to IRNA on Tuesday.

The Mustafa(pbuh) Investment and Endowment Fund was inaugurated in 2012 with the vision of becoming the biggest science and technology fund in the Muslim world. It has since been attracting a growing number of individual and corporate contributors on an international scale such as the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and, recently, the ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF).

“To get-to-know and to meet up with top scientist from the Islamic countries is very exciting for further networking and research collaborations. Mustafa(pbuh) Prize Secretariat has made it possible,” Ideris said in her statement.

The Malaysian academic has also enlisted her name as the honorary member of the Mustafa(pbuh) Prize Investment and Endowment Fund.

The UPM and its Vice Chancellor’s honorary membership in the fund came on the last day of the Science and Technology Exchange Program (STEP) in Islamic countries was held at the UPM in December, 2016.

Organized jointly by the UPM and the MSTF, the STEP brought together top Muslim scientists from around the world to network and exchange their scientific experiences. Among the delegates were laureates of the 2015 Mustafa(pbuh) Prize Professor Omar Yaghi from Jordan and Professor Jackie Ying from Singapore.

The Mustafa(pbuh) Prize awards 500,000 dollars in cash to top Muslim scientists from across the globe, with the goal of taking effective steps toward developing science and technology in the Muslim world. The prize is financed based on endowments made to the Mustafa(pbuh) Investment and Endowment Fund.
