The fire broke out in Qasr al-Maula hotel at 07: 30 pm local time on Saturday, Javad Shadi added.
He noted that the pilgrims had been dispatched to Iraq by an illegal travel agency and had been settled in a hotel which was not safe.
'There are no more details on the incident and we just know that five pilgrims from the Razavi Khorasan have been killed and two others critically injured,' the official added.
He said the killed pilgrims could not be identified because they have been totally burnt
108 Iranian pilgrims had been settled in the hotel and the killed pilgrims were old people who had remained in the hotel while other pilgrims were out, Shadi added.
He said the case is under investigation.
