The opening ceremony was held on Sunday evening, attended by Armenia's President Armen Sarkissian, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the country's Minister of Culture Lilit Makunts
At the ceremony, the prime minister expressed hope that the country's cinema will undergo improvement so that it gets rejuvenated.
Filmmakers from various countries including Iran, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Germany, Turkey and Britain are presenting their works in different sections of the festivals.
Two films from Iran, 'Everybody Knows' by Asghar Farhadi and '20th Circuit Suspects' by Hessam Eslami are participating in the competition.
President of the jury is the Iranian Oscar winner, Farhadi.
The Golden Apricot that is being held in Armenia every year since 2004, will end on July 15, following the award ceremony.
