'The traffickers were arrested after an exchange of fire. Three cars, 1,502 kilograms of opium, two Kalashnikov automatic rifles and a colt were confiscated in the operation in Nikshahr,' said Brigadier-General Mohammad Qanbari.

He said in the other operation two armed traffickers, a car loaded with 760 kilograms of opium and 101 kilograms of hashish were seized.

Sistan-Baluchestan Province has a very long border with Afghanistan and Pakistan.
