Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow on Tuesday that the next meeting of the Joint Commission of the JCPOA will be held this month at the level of political directors (foreign ministries) of the member-states.
In recent weeks, the Russian officials have emphasized the need for the JCPOA Joint Commission meeting to review the latest status of the implementation of this international agreement.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement on this issue on May 22 that the necessity of holding a Joint Commission meeting is apparent.
The statement reads, "We carefully monitoring the implementation of the JCPOA and from the media news we understood it has been estimated that Tehran has increased its uranium enrichment capacity at Natanz' nuclear site four times.”
Russia's foreign minister said the financial mechanism with Iran, called INSTEX, in its current form does not solve the issues that have arisen since the withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA.
"Contrary to what they have agreed, all countries trading with Iran cannot use this mechanism, and in the current situation, only members of the European Union have such a possibility," he said.
"Secondly, the use of this tool will not include all commercial transactions, and only deals that have humanitarian, therapeutic and food-related, and not subject to US sanctions, can be done," Lavrov said.
He added, "Obviously, such a tool cannot solve the issues of America's withdrawal from the deal and the problems that have emerged in the way of Iran to benefit from agreement."
“The United States has directly stated that it would ban Europe from using INSTEX. We hope that the Joint Commission meeting will be held this month and it will be clear here that to what extent we can fulfill our commitments within the framework of the resolution approved by the Security Council.”
