Iran's Coach Queiroz Praises Video Technology to Aid Referees

New FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed the news at a press conference in Cardiff on Saturday, revealing the aim was to avoid clearly incorrect decisions that are pre-defined “game-changing” situations.

“Late, but fantastic news  for football and its future; this is probably one of the most important steps in the game’s history, urgent for football’s credibility since Media (and Social Media) brought global exposition. Late, but still on time to improve. Congratulations,” Queiroz posted on his Facebook page on Sunday.

Following a meeting of the International FA Board in Cardiff it was confirmed that live trials will start by 2017-18 at the latest, bringing football a key step closer to following rugby and cricket in using video technology.

The use of video technology will be allowed in four questionable cases: to determine if a goal has been scored, a sending off, penalties and mistaken identity.
