Iranian athlete wins gold medal in Baku

Sajad Ganjzadeh emerged victorious with a result of 5-4 in his first contest against Saudi Arabia.

He also defeated his Indonesian rival 4-2 and then took down the Azeri opponent 5-4 in his march to the final competition.

Ganjzadeh then defeated his Turkish rival 5-3 and bagged the gold medal.

So far, the Iranian squad, comprising the men and women athletes, has managed to win two gold, one silver and five bronze medals in the third day of the competition.

The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games is a multinational, multi-sport event which is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 12 to 22 May, 2017.

Representatives of some 54 countries are in Baku to compete in 22 sport fields.

The Iranian team consists of 280 athletes (127 men, and 31 women) and is to compete in 20 categories.

Since the start of the games, the Iranian squad has managed to snatch 16 medals including four gold, four silver and eight bronze.
