In a telephone conversation with his Venezuelan counterpart Jorge Arreaza late on Friday, Zarif voiced Iran’s backing to the Venezuelan government which is facing a political crisis.
Both ministers discussed ways of countering US plots against independent governments, especially Venezuela.
They also reviewed the Mexican and Uruguayan governments’ proposals to reinforce local dialogue and using diplomatic means to settle disputes between the Venezuelan government and the opposition groups.
Over the past days, Venezuela has been the scene of political developments. Opposition leader Juan Guaido swore himself as interim president on Wednesday.
