Zarif: Iran-Russia coordination, Syria developments to be discussed in Moscow

Zarif was welcomed by the Russian authorities and the Iranian ambassador to Moscow Mahdi Sanaee.

Talking about the goals of his trip to Moscow, Zarif said, “After the US assault on Syria, it was necessary for Iran, Russia, and Syria, as three allies, to have a session of coordination.'

He added, “On the other hand, we needed to have some talks on the agreements that were reached by the two countries during President Rouhani’s trip to Russia in late March.”

According to the plan, during this one-day trip to Russia, Zarif will meet his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov to exchange views on common areas on interest.

The Iranian foreign minister will first have a bilateral meeting with Russian foreign minister and then he will attend the trilateral talks with his Russian and Syrian counterparts.

In addition to attend the trilateral talks on Syria, Zarif is also to hold separate bilateral talks with Lavrov and Walid al-Muallem as well.
