
Zarif met his Thai counterpart Don Pramudwinai on Tuesday on the sidelines of Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Leaders Summit held in Indonesian capital, Jakarta.
They explored avenues for boosting bilateral cooperation and discussed regional and international issues.
During the meeting, Zarif referred to the Iranian tourists’ visit to Thailand and called for further tourism cooperation between the two sides.
He admired progress of preferential trade agreement between Iran and Thailand and stressed need for improvement of banking cooperation between the two countries .
The Thai foreign minister for his part emphasized importance of mutual ties with Iran as a key regional state.
He noted that exploring the ways for enhancement of economic cooperation between Iran and Thailand and removing the obstacles on the way are necessary.
Zarif is participating IORA Summit on behalf of President Hassan Rouhani.
The Summit is being held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of IORA establishment. Leaders of the 21 IORA member states and 7 dialog partners as well as other special guests have participated in the Summit.
IORA members consist of Iran, South Africa, Australia, Bangladesh, Comoros, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Oman, United Arabic Emirates, Seychelles, Singapore, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand and Yemen.
US, England, Japan, Germany, Egypt, France and China are the 7 dialog partners of IORA.
