Velayati: Syrian FM in Tehran for importanat consultations

The Syrian government is to hold talks with the opposition groups while the latter has accepted Syria's territorial integrity and the Syrian government's legitimacy, Velayati said here Sunday.

Those opposition groups who want to lay their guns aside, avoid terrorist acts and be part of the great Syrian nation can participate in the upcoming Astana talks, Velayati said while speaking to reporters after his meeting with Muallem.

Of course, he stressed, Daesh and Al Nusra are not allowed to take part in the talks as they have been recognized as terrorist groups.

About his talks with Muallem, Velayati described the discussion as positive and constructive.

Then, he stressed that the visit of the Syrian intelligence, security and foreign affairs officials to Iran and cooperation between Tehran, Damascus and Moscow after the liberation of the strategic Syrian city of Aleppo is of top importance.

He further concluded that Iran is happy for the liberation of Aleppo, saying the victory gained by Syria and its allies is the greatest in the contemporary history in the region.
