Veep underlines Iran, Iraq cooperation to facilitate pilgrims' visit

At the end of joint negotiations, the two senior officials in a press conference underlined expansion of politico-economic relations and fight against terrorism.

Jahangiri congratulated victories of the Iraqi government and nation in fight against terrorism, especially in confrontation with Daesh in Mosul and said 'I am confident that in the shadow of these victories stability and security for Iraq and the whole region will emerge and Iraq territorial integrity will be stronger.'

Concerning the negotiations held between the two countries' delegations, Jahangiri said different issues like banking problems, oil cooperation development, gas export, construction of railways between Shalamcheh and Basra, confrontation with particle pollution and reviving Arvand River were discussed.

Haider al-Abadi said the aim of his visit to Tehran is to strengthen bilateral ties and express sorrow and sympathy for recent terrorist acts of Daesh in Majlis and Imam Khomeini Mausoleum.

Such acts convinced both countries to increase cooperation to destroy terrorists in the region and take more serious decisions in this concern, al-Abadi said.

After annihilation of terrorism, al-Abadi said we have to establish stability and renovation of Iraq and we will have vast cooperation with Iran in these issues as well.

Referring to settlement of some problems in future like desertification and banking ties, the Iraqi prime minister acknowledged about removing obstacles in the way of Iranian investors and contractors, and added that 'we intend to construct gas pipeline from Iran to south and capital of Iraq'.

He underlined the necessity to dredge Arvand River and revive shipping in the river and said that the two countries decided to clean remains of the demolishing war between the two countries from Arvand River.

Al-Abadi also talked about presenting facilities for Iranian pilgrims and providing security for them.

Haider al-Abadi arrived in Tehran on Tuesday for one day visit to Iran and was welcomed by first Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri.
