'Iran lost a national hero, a worthy son, a leader, old friend of the system, a unique asset and the government lost a brave supporter,' Jahangiri said in his message.
He said that Ayatollah Rafsanjani was a source of patience for the people's pains and a good model for voicing satisfaction in front of the God Almighty.
'It is only the God's blessing, national unity and colossal determination that can alleviate the heavy burden of such great loss,' the first vice-president said.
Ayatollah Rafsanjani died on Sunday at the age of 82 due to a heart attack in a Tehran hospital.
Rafsanjani, a veteran cleric, a pillar of the Islamic Revolution and a leading politician, served in different positions in the post-1979 Islamic Revolution era.
